Snowcloud: A Complete Data Gathering System for Snow Hydrology Research
نویسندگان
چکیده
Snowcloud is a data gathering system for snow hydrology field research campaigns conducted in harsh climates and remote areas. The system combines distributed wireless sensor network technology and computational techniques to provide data to researchers at lower cost and higher spatial resolution than ground-based systems using traditional “monolithic” technologies. Supporting the work of a variety of collaborators, Snowcloud has seen multiple Winter deployments in settings ranging from high desert to arctic, resulting in over a dozen node-years of practical experience. In this paper, we discuss both the system design and deployment experiences.

Itree-hydro: Snow Hydrology Update for the Urban Forest Hydrology Model
This article presents snow hydrology updates made to iTree-Hydro, previously called the Urban Forest Effects—Hydrology model. iTree-Hydro Version 1 was a warm climate model developed by the USDA Forest Service to provide a process-based planning tool with robust water quantity and quality predictions given data limitations common to most urban areas. Cold climate hydrology routines presented in...
متن کاملSnow satellite images for calibration of snow dynamic in a continuous distributed hydrological model
Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract The snow accumulation and melt processes are well known to play an important role on the river flow regime, in particular this is enhanced for basin with complex topography where the snow dynamic is strongly affected by hillslope expositio...
متن کاملRecent Research in Snow Hydrology
Recent work on snow pack energy exchange has involved detailed investigations on snow albedo and attempts to integrate energy energy balance calculations over drainage basins. Along with our better understanding of the electromagnetic properties of snow, research in remote sensing has become more focused toward estimation of snow pack properties. In snow metamorphism, analyses of the physical p...
متن کاملSnowpack-Runoff Relationships for Mid-Elevation Snowpacks on the Workman Creek Watersheds of Central Arizona
Snowpacks in the southwestern United States melt intermittently throughout the winter. At some mid-elevation locations, between 7,000 and 7,500 ft, snowpacks appear and disappear, depending on the distribution of storms during relatively dry winters. Some winter precipitation can occur as rain during warm storms and is not reflected in the snow course data. The USDA Natural Resources Conservati...
متن کاملEstimation of Snow Water Equivelant Using a Parameterized Snow Scattering Model
Active microwave sensors, especially high-frequency radar systems, are highly sensitive to snow pack parameters, including Snow Water Equivalent (SWE), which is a crucial parameter in the studies of hydrology and climatology. For example, studies using Ku-band observations from scatterometer QuickSCAT and POLSCAT have shown significant radar backscattering responses on SWE variations. It has be...
